I'm new at this so sorry if this is a basic question. I found an odd colored kennedy and wanted to see if there was any reason for keeping it. I wanted to ask since I've seen toned coins listed for much higher prices, but beyond that I don't know the first thing about toning. I attached a picture with it next to a normal one. Thanks for any info you can provide.

theres all kinds of toning from natural and man made occurrences, even 24k gold plated halves (its only like 3 microns thick).

Someone posted a few weeks back they were able to sell the gold plated ones at a garage sale for a buck a piece which I would call a win.

I don't much about toning value either, but I would suspect its a very niche market.

thats sweet i keep all the really toned ones collection starts to look cool after a while

Let's see the edge, you may have one that missed the silvery color cladding.......NGE

i agree edge please..

I wish I could get a good picture of the edge. I used a scanner for the flat one, but obviously that won't work on an edge.

The edge has the the two toned look of a clad, just both colors are darker thanks to whatever this is coated in. The back is the same color as the front. On the high res scan I took you can see a couple of glints of the normal silver color in a few tiny dots. So that being said, I don't think it's a mint error upon further examination. Thanks for the comments/questions/advice so far everyone.

Looks like a dug coin to me. the minerals i our soil do some nasty things to our coinage.

I have a Kennedy half that I took out of a mint set. The cellophane turned it a yellowish color in all but a place or two. FWIW.
