This is an update to http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...od-hunt-snorkling-any-ideas-maker-s-mark.html

I did a total of five visits; yes, research pays off. Three, possibly four, gold rings! I say “possibly” since the ring located below the buffalo nickel in this photo has got me baffled. It came out all black so I thought it may be silver. Started polishing up and the gold color started really to come through. There are no markings yet, upon close inspection, it doesn’t appear to be plated. It does test positive for 14K gold but alittle bit of plate may register the positive. In any case, everything is basically from the early 20th century. Some of the rings have strong art deco like features. Keep in mind, the beach area is rather small, about 200 x 100‘ and under about 5 feet of water. The last visit was a little weak in findings so I know I’m cleaning out the place, but I am definitely going back! This has been a wild ride.

Edit: UGG sorry about the darkish picture. Forgot to mention that the class ring is 1935 10K gold

Great, great bunch of finds. I give you a lot of credit for hunting in the water...that can't be easy. Congrats!

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Thank you; snorkeling and metal detecting is hard work. I am not standing in the water using a scoop; I am snorkeling on the surface and, most of the time, diving down and sweeping the bottom of the lake with the AT Max. A target could take multiple dives down and fanning away the muck. The Garrett carrot is amazing and basically a necessity. I’m telling you, though, this 60-year-old body gets pretty pooped after an hour in 7-10 feet of water. But it really is my happy place.

great finds! You need a small scuba tank that you could use when you go down to fan the targets.

Congrats on a great bunch of awesome finds!

Thats the move! Nice finds. I do snorkel and weights in 2-5 ft. I lay on the bottom and fan. The weights help you not float away in the currents but I'm salt water. I have a good scoop but fanning seems faster, more fun and exhausting. You must be in great shape. I'm 40 and find it physically demanding. I've been meaning to post but too busy hunting. I'm hitting it again tomorrow full force before the water gets too cold. New site for me tomorrow but one I've been trying to get to for years. Keep up the good work I need that inspiration!

Oh and the gold turns black after many years provided it sits still. In the salt water it turns black in 25-30 yrs depending on karat, 10k more quickly than 14k. In fresh water I would think it would take a long time. If its got that dense feel chances are its solid.

Nice finds! Hope several turn out to be gold. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for your post. People don’t realize the amount of hard work it is holding your breath, not getting the target, holding your breath again, not getting the target, holding your breath... etc., etc. I have run several marathons and ultramarathons in the past; I have found that it’s 90% mental. Same with fighting the current in salt water. I’ve had many hunts at third beach in Newport, Rhode Island where I can’t count the number of times that bubbles I have blasted out of my mask with words that should not be repeated here.
