Detector(s) used
Tesoro Vaquero - Garrett AT Pro - Teknetics Patriot, Liberator, and Digitek
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
After all considerations I opted for the Vanquero and the 9x8 concentric. My 5 3/4 concentric will be here today. At first I didn't care for it (been using an AT Pro), no VDI blah blah blah. After I took it clad hunting for a couple of hours I couldn't get the smile off my face!!!!! Really enjoyed using this machine!!!! Took it out to a homestead that we have pounded a lot. It is now just an open field that has been farmed for years. About an hour and a half in to the hunt and a couple of thimbles later, I get a great hard signal, "sounds like a coin" I thought!!!! DSCN2466.webp 3-4 inches of earth later out pops this beautiful 1852 Large Cent... My first large Cent!!!! Just Awesome!!! Can't wait for the snow to leave so I can get back out there... Thanks to everyone for your input. I believe that any Tesoro would be the right choice!!!!!! Thanks again to all...

Nice going! People who have never used a Tesoro detector or one properly think that I'm crazy by how much I go on and on about how well they work.

Nice cent! I was thinking of upgrading with AT Gold, but want to try a beep and dig machine. Dont know if it going to be a Cibola or Vaquero, not in a hurry anyway. I think those detectors will get better results in mineralized grounds than my Delta.

I get it Tabman!!!! Didn't really take long to get the hang of it either... When I was looking for a new detector I wanted something completely different from the AT Pro. I got that!!!! lol I am smiling writing this... It is a real joy to run it. bill_wabo I can't say anything about your ground but I will say that the Vanquero gave me a whole new perspective to the detecting world. I actually was able to guess what was under the coil with more precision than I can with the AT Pro (overall). I really thought it might take time to understand the Tesoro machine but it really wasn't (for me anyway and my conditions I wanted it for). Mostly it's about how well you know your detector and can use it, for sure, but I am excited to get to know this machine so I can even better utilize its functionality.... In short "I REALLY LIKE THE VANQUERO"!!!!!!! lol

Get the Vaquero, you won't be disappointed. Having a ground balance will be appreciated and needed in bad ground. I don't know this first hand since I detect in really good ground, but I've been told that having the soil condition switch on the Tesoro Mojave set on 'high' works extremely great in bad ground. Just a thought.

Bucket list item there!! It will be a happy day when I find one!!!
Great find!!

Thanks Tabman, it will be a Vaquero since I hunt in bad ground conditions. My chances to find a coin like yours are slim but we never know ;) HH!

Thanks Tjack for the reply, with my Delta I get too many false readings (iron junk) and even sometimes the signal disappear once the plug removed. The ground balance feature and treshold will help alot in my mineralized ground.

At the risk of ruffling some feathers I'd point out that the only thing any detector really does is alert the user to the fact that there is a target under the coil. TID, tones etc. are nice and do add a bit of info to help decide whether to dig or not, but ultimately don't change my first statement here. Any experienced user with a decent beep and dig detector doesn't really give up much to the those depending on bells and whistles. In the end, use what YOU like.

In some cases, the TID, VDI, etc can actually dissuade you from digging
Sure you don't dig as much garbage, but you also leave that nice gold ring.....
It's a double edged sword.
I have 2 "fancy" units I call them. 3 if you count the Deleon.
I do runy Deleon but I almost always go back over with a screenless model later. Deleon picks out my coins, other units drudge through the garbage.
Can I use my Deleon or other fancy ones for everything, sure!! I plan to do more of that this year.
But last year that was my cycle.
Deleon coin day was great. Next day full of trash not so much until the jewelry popped out. Still tough to dig trash after trash. But that's the name of the game to find the good stuff!!
