US penny blank?

I was looking at some of my coins the other day.
When I found what it appears to be a penny blank.
It has no markings at all.
Are these blanks common?
It is the same in circumference but its a little thinner.
I guess it gets wider once they strike the coin?
As you can see I don't know much about coins.

Hey Moose,

Blank planchet's aren't terribly rare, but I've never found one. Bring it to a coin shop and they will tell you for sure. They aren't worth huge bucks, but a Lott more than a penny
