I also have a V3I
what are you seeing for depth on coins?

I lay mine across my bed and get a good 10 inches with the factory D2 coil. That's the basic norm. Tones shouldnt make any difference. Iron in the ground could throw it off if testing a surface coin.

Best bet bury coins at different depths in your yard. Then tune the V3i to find them. Sometimes 12 gain is too much. Bury a nickel at about 7", dime at 8", penny at 8, quarter at 12". With the right settings it should pck up these depths. Then when you detect it should go deeper on older buried coins.

I hope you don't have a coil spring mattress or box spring. [emoji12]

Just bought a v3i and programed all the tones, does this affect depth at all? got it on 12 for gain and 5 band pass, seems to go deep pinpointing but air tests are not what I expected, I have Iron down to 2 .

The tones you define make no difference on depth whatsoever. In the real world you will probably want to back down gain a bit unless the ground is real clean. Lowering the sensitivity does not affect depth a whole lot but will lessen the chatter a lot and the VDI's will be much more accurate.
Mine doesn't air test very good either but I have yet to find a coin in the air. [emoji4]

Tones will not affect depth , what is your expectations for depth ? Also what is your disc sensitivity at?
