Hi, last year I dug a 1823 Matron Head Large Cent, typical condition for being in the ground for 170+ yrs. If my coin wasn't so dark, pitted and hard to read it would probably rate at least G-4. My 2005 Red Book shows a G-4 condition at $60.
But I frequent http://www.ecoinprices.com/ often and I just realized that this year dated large cent has jumped up to $200 in G-4. I don't know when it did though.

Do you think that it's just a error on the website?

Thanks!

Re: 1823 Matron Head Large Cent

Latest issue (dated Jan. ’07) of Coin World's Coin Values supplement lists the 1823 large cent at $125 in Good (G-4) condition, and the 1823/2 at $100, Good.

PCGS guide says: 1823 BN G: $200 F: $425

PCGS can say whatever it wants. Check ebay and other coin auctions to see what it is really worth. Sometimes price guides can be deceiving!!!! Remember its only worth what someone is willing to pay. ;)

So very true! My wife says that they aren't worth anything if I don't sell them! ::)

Here's a pic after messing with my new camera for an hour to get a good pic of it!
Of course in this condition, not worth $200 anyways.
