As a person who detects mainly public sites, I usually end up digging mainly nickel type signals. Up until using the 540, I believed the Fisher CZ detectors were the best at finding nickels. In the last four hunts, I have found 5 Buffalo nickels with 4 being in the 8 inch deep range. All read a perfect, soft 12-13 and with no distortion to the signal. I actually called the last two I dug. Of course, I called them to myself.
Today, I was showing my buddy the 540 and I was demonstrating it in his back yard. He has not bought a new detector since 1996(Bandito 11 umax). We found three deep(8 inches) coins and he was impressed to say the least. This detector truly is one heck of a bargain for the performance you get.
