Congrats! That is a nice find. IMO, this is one of the most under-rated Lincolns.

May have spoke too soon, took the microscope to my last 4 1909's and:

Looks like a D there... Bit more worn but hey, I'm happy pulling wheats, ecstatic pulling anything 100 years old, let alone a rare VDB!

Wow - huge find(s)! One find produces another... :laughing7: At least the one you found today is a no doubter V.D.B.

I still look at my 09 vdb hoping the S appears lol and same with my 1916 Merc for the D you may just find it one of these days

Here you go. I think you want one like this.

Older folks who remember the golden age of coin collecting in the 1960's with coin shops on nearly every corner, are now either passing away or no longer buying coins. There are too many other distractions for younger people and they are (mostly) not interested. In the "old days", a coin like that would get scooped up at a local shop or coin show. I just checked Ebay and found there are 2562 1909 vdb cents there, some pcgs ms-64 starting at 0.99. How many buyers could there possibly be with such a supply?

Rosco53 keep looking I cheated and dug mine up from in front of my house. I have dug well over a 1000 wheaties and five have been 1909s. The other four are plain. I did not mean to show off or offend you sorry if I did.

How do you get the rolls? Are they wheat pennies only?

No worries, that was sarcasm. Congrats again on the great find, only thing I found metal detecting around my place was old nails and beer bottles... Made me wonder how the barn stood so long here :p. And I don't get rolls, fortunate enough that my bank will sell me bags off the machine.

Congratulations on the wild find Rosco.
Strange seeing this post today. Yesterday I pulled a 1909 VDB from a roll. Great condition. I may post it later.
I read where a collector said the only ones worth saving were pre 1936 wheats. Been throwing pre '36s in a coffee cup for three years now. Don't know what's in there, don't know whats good.

That's so awesome. If you keep at it long enough, you'll find all the greats.
