Do pop machines take silver quarters and dimes? I have one in my building and today I had nothing to do so for about 5 min Id put a quarter in then hit the change and a new one would come out. I was wondering if they weigh to much to be accepted or if there could be silvers in there.

thanks

the coin return coins are different than the ones that people put in. there are coin tubes the vender fills up with coins that gives change and there is a coin box that the vender emptys when it gets full. vending machines do not take silver, but that dosen't mean it will give out silver. the vender might have gone to the bank and put a roll of silver dimes in there, or he could take the coins from the coinbox and put them in the coin tubes. if you want to vending machine hunt (VMCRH), try nickels because sometimes collectors use vending machines as their way to get older coins to circulate again in hopes to start a new coin collector. i doubt a veding machine would even have silver in it. it could though, i've seen lots of suprises on the forum. keep trying though. you won't get silver if you don't hunt! Sweet thanks for the good info. Ill keep trying when I get bord throughout the day.

I've been playing the soda machine in my office at work. I started off with quarters, which gave me nothing special, just some of the new state quarters I hadn't seen yet. After I while, I felt like I was getting quarters back that I'd seen before. "Wait a minute... that scratch looks familiar." So then I started marking my inputted coins with a discrete Sharpie dot. It took me 3 weeks until I consistently got my marked quarters back. Since then, I've focused on nickels and dimes, and I quickly found a 1940-D nickel. The machine will accept dollar coins, but not halves or pennies. I'll give it some more time and then move on to the machine upstairs.

Vending machines can be a TH'ers best friend. I too have done some research about the workings of them. I noticed that every few weeks, the coin reject box is usually switched with the one that we put money in. It's a great way to look at many different coins without dealing with banks. good luck, I bet there are coins of all suprises to be found via vending machines

yea i bet there is! 8) we need to talk to treasurenet and ask them to put a vending machine coin hunting section in! ;D
