Alright, I feel like an idiot, like this is reserved for millennials or something, but I'm having trouble with some button holders I bought, like the ones pictured below.

For flat buttons with no shanks, I have no problem. But anything with a shank, or two piece buttons, I feel as if I am smashing the button. I don't want to damage anything, so I guess I have to carve out a spot for the button to sit in, but how/what do I do it with?

Those look perfect I'm not sure if they need air though

Use an exacto knife, or single edge razor blade, and you don't have to go to deep with the cut. I have had to do the same thing with some bigger buttons.

I have cut the foam down in thickness to fit some buttons and have even omitted the foam in some instances.
