Hey everyone! Stopped in an antique store while on vacation. Was looking through some civil war bullets found on a Virginia CW battlefield when I can across some that I did not recognize. There where several of them but I picked out three that where in the best condition. This post is about 1 of them. I will post the others in a separate post. This one is most similar to a "Sharps Carbine - Gomez and Mills Patent" with the top carved off. However, the base is incorrect. It is 0.5725 inches wide and 0.8030 inches long. Weighs 462.971 grains. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I did some more research and found this to be a "Lee 1 Cavity Modern Minie Ball". Good learning experience.

Just for future reference, civil war bullets that have been dug will always have a white patina from the lead oxidizing, the only place you'll find them still grey like that is in water. So if someone is selling ground dug bullets that are shiny and grey, they are either misinformed or trying to pull a fast one.

So just so I'm straight......this is a modern black powder slug correct?
