visiting Calgary

I manage trade shows and will be in the Calgary area for a trade show June 4 - 11. I am coming from Illinois and I would like to do some metal detecting while I am there if possible. Does anyone have any hints or recommendations as to where I can go? What are the rules for hunting in parks, etc.? I have sent an email to the local club (Calgary Metal Detecting Club) but have not received anything back yet.

I will be staying about a mile from the Calgary Stampede area. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
