Visiting Sarasota in April need suggestions

My main purpose for the visit is to look around at housing between Sarasota south to Naples. But I plan on doing a little detecting on the side. Any areas I should go for or stay away from? I'll probably get a hotel in Sarasota.

Pray for some rough surf to pull some of the sand off the beaches....Florida is sanded in pretty badly right now........
