That's a really cool find.

I think this was shot for target practice.
I hope so. But If it was shot while he was wearing it, it was a shield in more ways than one.
 

that's awesome! I've been to Cripple Creek several years ago. I remember how the roads would wind around. I can imagine in the 1800's they were probably pretty tricky to negotiate a wagon and team on. Super cool find!

Here's something I've always wanted to find. Found in Cripple Creek. I'm hoping to find it in the local directories. Maybe you all could tell me more about this? I imagine it was a badge worn by the driver who hauled whatever he could get paid for. The roads were treacherous around here!! I think this was shot for target practice. Nothing on the back.
