Decided to take a small walk around the mansion today. Have I mentioned that it's pretty well dried up? ;)

Only found 2 "keepers" in 3 hours.

The button I knew was a keeper when I found it, looks to be pretty old, considering the way the hook is put on the back.
No markings, just a plain "old" button.

The second thing, the plate, was just a piece of scrap I decided to clean up. It wasn't until I got it home and cleaned enough to read that I realized it is a piece of history. Where, exactly, it falls I'm not sure. But I know it is a neat little relic.

It reads " Daniel Stabler "
" Graystone"
" NCRR. "

Whatcha think? Did I waste 3 hours today? ;)

nah, not a waste. what else would u have been doing??

I think it's pretty hard to waste time when you're outside walking around with a detector, even if you don't find much at all.

Oh, probably just harvesting the pearls from my oyster farm, or isolating that gold vein from the rock a little better, or, maybe finally dig the rest of that diamond out of the cave wall. ;) LOL

ANY find is a nice find WHADIFIND.

You mean all that fresh air? The scenery? Hearing the birdies chirp? You really think all that's worth something? ;)

Yeah, I know. One of these days I'm gonna post up something and someone is going to pipe up and shout:

"DO YOU KNOW WHAT THAT IS, WHADIFIND!!!! :)

Detecting is never a waste of time but especially when you get a relic with a name on it. You can research the name using ancestry.com and you may find all sorts of interesting information.

You're asking the wrong crowd if Metal Detecting could ever be a waste of time! :laughing7: Still a couple of nice saves there. I love finding those relics with names of people and places!

Actually, the title was just rhetoric. Kind of trying to show that even just 2 finds in all that time, is still worth the effort. Heck, even no keepers and the trip is still worth something to me.

This won't ever be voted "banner" though. It's not gold nor silver and it doesn't have George or Martha Washington's name inscribed. ;) LOL
But, I ask ya, how many of these do you think have ever been found? How many ever will? Even, how many were ever made?! But, no, not a lifetime enough event. ;)

I've already figured this has to do with Daniel who lived in the area of the Graystone station on the old North Central Railroad line. Nothing special about that, huh. ;)

Thanks for the kind response!

HH!
