Searching the far end of a Northern Michigan lake (connects to a chain of lakes). I was hoping to find something old buried there in the sand and eventually stumbled upon these in the clay bottom. IMG_20170701_220256.webpIMG_20170701_220326.webp

Hmmm? Very interesting but, I am clueless as to what they are.:icon_scratch: Maybe post them in the "What is It" section to find out what you got there.

They were driven into the logs so they could be chained together. Congrats on your finds

I just call them log dogs, not sure if that's correct. They were hammered into logs to tie the rafts or booms together for transport. I found one in Washington state but not in that good of condition.P1070148.webp

Never saw them before.
Those are cool.

Rope hawsers?
Hawser is a nautical term for a thick cable or rope used in mooring or towing a ship. A hawser passes through a hawsehole, also known as a cat hole, located on the hawse.

log dogs is what I know them by too
