Wedge?

Found this not very deep on a old road in the middle of the woods. I thought it was a axe head but it is a old hammered wedge as there is no axe handle hole. Any thoughts on it?

I think that's what it was forged for, log splitter.

I would be interested to see a top view. Early axe heads were actually folded for the hole rather than punched through as in later process'. A wedge would have beef very wide and blunt like a maul

Thats all I need is one more hobby. I have to quit my job.
