My primary reason for wanting to travel over 300 miles to the casino was to exchange my halves for bills. I had five boxes. It worked. The wife gambled and I made trips out to the car trunk to get more halves. I would give some to her and take the rest to the cashiers. I think I made more than 10 trips. A host and a security guard asked me what I had at one point. I showed them the halves - no problem. While I was playing the half dollar slots I was picking out 40% silver halves from the coins that were coming out of the machines. Ended up with 24 of them. The icing on the cake was that we won big several times Sat. night and Sun morning. That money not only allowed us to have fun and play longer, but we left with the money we went there with and a little more after paying for gas, food and room (the beer was free, tip them well the first time and they pay special attention to you).
I pleaded with several people at the casino not to phase out the coin operated slots, but it sounds like that has already been in the plans for a while. They said someday soon they won't have them anymore.
