Heel plate made out of lead or white metal? I don't think that's what it is.

creskol,

I looked at the picture a couple of times and appears that the item is more than likely iron than lead or white metal....but then again my eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be....lol.

I'm pretty sure it's not lead but hits on my detector like it. It scratches silver colored with a file but way too hard for lead

I collected golf clubs for years and it certainly looks like a sole plate from a three wood.

Duggap! I love this site. Thanks! The huge 1830s house next door used to have a very old golf course. I'm no golfer so I never thought of that.

creskol,

I dug what I was almost certain was a heel plate last summer.....I was only partly right as it turned out it was a heel plate all right but from an old golf club....lol.....that would also explain the big number 3.

Now I could see that as a good ID! I

As to age I would guess 50s to 60s. It is from a store line of clubs not a pro shop line of clubs. It looks kind of like those that were sold by Montgomery Ward back in the day.

Got a magnet? That will answer the iron vs. lead question.
