Some Florida Wildlife Commission reports for May.

ALACHUA COUNTY
Investigator Terrynce Bing finished an investigation for Illegal digging of artifacts on state lands when an individual was caught on camera by our investigation unit while Investigator Bing and the Alachua County units began foot patrol observations on the excavation site. Several months had passed before the individual returned to the site. After making a positive identification of the individual, Investigator Bing interviewed him and received a written statement, along with some artifacts that had been taken from the site. Investigator Bing will be filing charges through the Alachua State Attorney’s Office

PUTNAM COUNTY
Investigator Dustin Bonds and Officer Ryan Haney were on vessel patrol in Lake George when they noticed a suspicious vessel. Upon investigation, it was found that two male subjects, using masks and snorkels, were probing for and excavating artifacts from a known site near Rocky Point. The subjects are being charged with excavating artifacts from state lands

Yep better to hunt private property in my opinion. Same way with metal detecting or even picking up a 1950 penny. I guess you can go on those sites sense we own them as public land and take pictures maybe do an insitu then throw it out into the deep water to protect it?
