Went Back For the Frozen Bottles

In my last post I mentioned that I had to leave behind 3 bottles that were frozen in the ground. Well I was in the area and decided to see if they had thawed out any. It took some prying with a screwdriver but I managed to recover 2 good bottles the other was busted. Im not sure what the amber bottle is, maybe someone could fill me in on the details. They were both basically laying in plain sight under some rubbage.

That's probably right on the mark. Bottle shapes used for specific beverages haven't changed much over the past 100 or so years. These days you will generally find this type of taller bottle used for something like a Riesling, but I found one just like this from the 1890's that was clearly labeled as Burgundy.

Harry is right again. The wine bottle is very common and we find then quite often in the privies we dig around town. The Wm Martin bottle is William Martin and it is a clear/ aqua blob beer. Locally made here in South Bend. Pretty common as well. I have found a few, most were broken. I believe there are several variants of the bottle. In fact I believe William has a brother or two that also has embossed bottles. Nice find. That one most likely dates to 1900 or so. Maybe there are more where you found those.
