Daughters! Went to a favorite spot that has been challenging over the last 9 months. I hadn't found anything noteworthy since February. So the little gopher takes a brand new Cibola I got for her to use and she doesn't do a good job of following me. Or swinging the loop correctly. Or getting anything but aluminum cans. Until it was just about dark yesterday. So - phase I - she brings me this mess!

With several pounds of sinkers attached. And the aluminum can complete with mini Christmas wreath.

Then it's getting REALLY DARK and she is dragging way behind me digging a big gopher hole. Sand's going everywhere! I get up near her and dig a good signal, great another aluminum can. But no, it isn't. So I look in my scoop and have a really big dark heavy thing. Then dig another signal a couple feet away and dig another big black heavy thing. She digs out the tiny flashlight (dudette, its' time to LEAVE). She Waves something in the air for me to see and kind of clucks like a chicken. Then I told her to check her hole before she covers it, and (hey, it's getting DARK), and goes after another Signal. Then she almost falls down and starts muttering something and I take my two black heavy things and go over to her and say its time to go. ITS DARK. She ran the loop over the hole, and no more signals. So she says I've really got something weird here. We march to the car, without getting swept out to sea put the stuff in it. Get back to the hotel. One of my big black things was a piece of coal. Rats. I feel like Charlie Brown at Halloween, as in all I got The second big black thing looks like a silver dollar. We had stopped to get some lemon juice for quick cleaning, She shows me her little coin. It's a 1756 Spanish 1/2 escudo, as in GOLD. It looks like it was lost yesterday The other "thing" was two 8 reale coins stuck together, and my second black thing found nearby was a third 8 reale. It looks like they were all stuck together until recently, but mine came off and landed a few feet away. We'll have to run these through some electrolysis, I can't make out any dates. She whopped me good. Thank you Corps of Engineers! All the good stuff was hidden by the fishing trash, in essentially one hole and within a few feet. Went back this am to the same area and got a boat load of sinkers and aluminum cans. tracy.webp

geez, that's insane!!!!

Beyond insane. We spent at least an hour looking for the word "copy" on them somewhere. Didn't find it. Got some modern change too, a 1751 half penny, saw a hypodermic needle with needle cover still on, yuck, beach glass, a few shells, and what others have identified here as a worn out Victorian penny, This was my first 8 reale. I bought a few shipwreck cobs years ago, but this is the first 8 reale milled coin I ever found, even if there's no date. My daughter never found a silver or gold coin before. It must have been where they dumped one of their dredge screens and the mass of monofilament junk, swivels and masses of sinkers didn't let them see the good stuck in their dredge screen. Or the Lord just has a sense of humor. There was quite a bit of excitement at the beach today otherwise - two SNOWY OWLS parked on the dunes and even I got a pic of one! The photogs were everywhere. The last time she detected with me she found a civil war minie ball on her BOOT TOP in deep mud. The bullet came up on the toe of her boot! She was 13.

Hey - get some pics of that escudo up here and go for BANNER ! (This should easily make it )

I'll try to get some better pics before my daughter leaves for NYC in the AM. She looked like a maddened gopher going after it. We still need to do electrolysis on the reales. I hope all these things are real. Some people in the past have put fakes on the beach for "fun". Jerks.

Better pic attached. Durned thing looks like it was lost when it was almost new.gold.webp

It does look too good to be true - but stranger things have happened - It may well be the real deal , does it feel heavy for it's size ?

It does feel heavy. My little scale broke, so I have to buy another gram scale. Think it could be a lost part of an earring? Or Pendant? You know, they kind they put a bezel around. This is what it was found with.IMG_0485.webp Stranger things have happened. I was in my dress shoes walking near the car in the desert outside Las Vegas and found a small meteorite near the road. Found a gold nugget at the creek at my house here on the east coast, and a couple civil war minie balls where no one should have been firing them last week or so. Found a George Washington inaugural button in a $2 box of arrowheads in an auction 20 years ago. Was poor then, so I sold it. Just dumb now!
