What a day...11 Silver...2 Injuns...a 1922 Dog License...and Dick Tracy's car!

I met up with Gary and T-Bucket at an out of town park .

An old feller' had told me last year that they used to have a "dime pitch" for kids here back in the late 50's to early 60's. It was something they did as an annual charity thing for those few years.

They tore out the old wishing well structure and the old small building that stood next to it ..many years ago. They then just scattered and buried all the iron and junk all over the dimes the kids had tossed and lost. :help:

A couple of years ago a detecting club also had a buried hunt here..so there was even some goodies left by them.
Over 35 hunters pounded this 50' x 90' area for 4 hours one day...then the same 35 people pounded it again the next day for another 4 hours.

Anyway about 3 hours into the hunt I had 5 silver in my pouch...and Gary...well...had an empty pouch. ;D

I then got another of the hits I was looking for and called Gary over so he could listen to it. It was a perfect example of a silver coin on edge and hiding in iron. It was an absolute sweet screamer...but from only one precise spot. If you turned it was gone...and if you circled the hole it was gone. In that one spot though...it just sounded sweet...and different from iron falsing. 8) He piddled with the signal for a while and said he wouldn't have dug it. :icon_scratch:

After a couple of minutes of trying to find it way off the center of the hole...out came another Roosey. Gary mumbled a few choice words about me teaching him bad hunting habits ;D ... and one way signals  ...but he now knew the sound he needed to listen for...and to also ignore the screen...hunting only by sound.

After having his eyes opened..and his pie hole closed ;D ...over the next few hours.. his pouch started to fill up. He pocketed 5 silver and every one was on edge and in the iron.

4 of the Roosies I got were in the 5" to 6" range...but straight on edge and surrounded by iron.

The other 5 Roosies and the Merc were much deeper at 8" in heavy iron... and had been covered up many years ago when the wishing well structure was scattered and buried.

I then popped on the 15" WOT coil.....and wandered over to an area between two big trees and where the dirt was nice and black. Before long I had an iffy hit...but it did have the warble I like in the tone. It only hit from one way...but absolutely repeated in that one spot...so I dug it.

From nearly 9" down..and pretty much on edge...out popped out the 1899 Barber quarter. :headbang:

About 20 feet away I goy an absolute screamer and it was deeeeep

After digging halfway to China  ...seriously...I placed my arm in the hole and my elbow was exactly at ground level :headbang:...I finally found the target.

From every bit of 15" down...out popped Dick Tracy's car ;D. Sure it's a little beat up...but on one side I can make out the letters."acy"...so I know it's Dick's

It's been many, many years since I hit double digits on the silver. In fact this honestly may be my first ever 11 silver day.
Thanks for viewing.

That's a lot of silver from one hunt. It had to be quite fun. I get excited on those targets where you only get a signal from one direction. They usually turn out to be nice finds. Great job.

Found an old wishing well out this way once also, had been buried for more than 50 years and it was sweet. Too bad you got to that dime toss after the big digs there, but you still did great. Only dime toss I've done is modern and they will keep you on your knees for a long time if they haven't been hit.

Great hunt!

Bryce,

I don't think I've ever seen that many Rosies in your post ever!! :D :D :laughing3:

Hey, silver is silver, no matter where you find it, or in what denomination!!

Very good day! Once again, nice to know that no place is truly ever hunted out! I had a friend visit from Italy and didn't get out this weekend, so it is nice to read that others had a good time!

So, seeing as how you can always dig up silver :P, I guess the real treasure for the hunt is Dicks car! :)

Silverfreak,
Great finds and I have learned a few things from reading your post.
I think I have been relying to much on my screen on my F-75 (listening to sound also, but if it is not good on my screen I usually don't always dig iffy signals)
and will now try to only hone in on the sound and see if I can get similar results.
(Probably not as many finds as you, but if I can just find one silver that way that way I will be happy!)

Mumble, mumble... :'( I dig those signals when I first go out. I'm ambitious and thinking of your posts and people like you. :icon_sunny: Knowing if I do it right I'll end up with 10 silvers.... :o So after 20 or 30 min of digging trash and iron :icon_scratch: I get disappointed and start digging my normal clear as day so called silver hits. ;D I end up going home with a bunch of trash and a ton of clad.... No silver, no gold! >:(

Nice work,

Keep @ it and HH!! :D

Thanks Emil. I agree with you...many times the walked over one way hits can be good ones. Many times it can be iron though too :D

Bryce,

Another amazing post. You are a silver magnet if there ever was one. I am still relying on the screen to tell me to dig or not. I have tried a few one way signals but have not come away with anything but trash so far. Usually a square nail. I am convinced that I am missing some of the signals that you would dig every time.

Thanks for sharing the story though. Makes me try harder to find silver before you get em all!!!

HH,

Dave
