I posted these in the "What is it" a few weeks back, and we couldn't come to a conclusion. Story goes...... A friend of mine travels alot and likes to bring me back old coinage. He brought me these a few years back, and I'm just now trying to define them. I'm not sure, but I think this particular trip was to Europe. I wish I had more info to offer, but that's about as much as I know. And just for the record, he likes to try and stump me on the origin of the coins he gives me. I'd like to be mad at him, but afterall, he is giving me neat old coins :-).
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jules

My first guess is......very cool !!!

Vatican, yeah, something to do with it.

The crossed keys usually are used in connection with the Papacy.

Note, though, that "the Vatican", i.e, Vatican City proper wasn't created until the early 20th century.  Before the creation of Vatican City, the Pope merely lived in Rome, hence the phrase Roman Catholic.

My suggestion is to research under coins for Rome or the Papal States.  What we now know as Italy was a collection of states until they were unified by Garibaldi in the 1860s.
