What do I have here?

Is this a form of schist? If it helps, this was found in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. I haven't done any research as to what minerals are located around (besides gold), but rather I'm just posting on here for discussion and to see if anyone knows by visually seeing it.

Looks like a sedimentary rock like siltstone. Basically hardened mud. I have it here were I live.

That shiny sheen on it indicates phyllite, a precursor to schist
