I thought I had a copper slug when this came out. The blasted thing is over 1/8" thick. After cleaning the dirt off, I was able to see enough detail to ID it. It's a 1797 cartwheel penny. Don't know why someone was carrying that around to lose it in an 1870s house yard. Also got 6 IHPs, 25+wheaties and two mercs. The guy who sold me my first detector back in the 1970s said they did real good in that yard when they hunted it back then. They sure missed a lot.

Congratulations on a real good hunt. I’d be thrilled with the Indians and the merc, but the cartwheel penny really makes it special.

The older detectors were not as good as the newer ones we use today. That probably explains why they left so much behind. I guess you’re glad they missed a lot. I know I would be. Stay safe, good luck and keep swingin.

Well done on the hunt.
Congrats on the Cartwheel.

Yep...I like your yard.

You had yourself one hell of a hunt! Great bunch of IHP's with a silver kicker no less. The cartwheel penny is fantastic! How did it get there? We'll never know...but who cares....YOU found it!!! Congrats!

Sweet 'Cartwheel ' & that 1884 IH is awesome esp, if the reverse looks as good as the obverse .

Banner hunt in my world .

Very nice hunt, those Cartwheel pennys are huge.
