Interesting observations by simply eyeballing this one.

Looks like a face carving without lips or sealed lips.

Are appearances correct?
Are they an Illusion ?
Is this a shallow cave ?
Or is more going on here ?
looking at the large shadow ( the hole ), looks like an Indian looking left and wind from his back is blowing his head dress up and to the left the way he is looking.
Maybe at different times of the day the shadows can tell a story here.:icon_scratch::thumbsup:

Barton, did you check for any large loose rocks in the bottom left?

I did not check or move any rocks--there are a series of caves or holes here--
all of them appear shallow --show no sign of valuable ore--no mineralization
some caves or holes appear natural, some appear man made--this one
captured my attention.

Ok, if rocks don't move probably nothing right here, except perhaps a couple carvings?

Cave

my theory or hunch is this cave is man made
probably centuries ago.

What the purpose of making this cave was I do not know nor understand

Wow!!! Kind of up and out of the way.....maybe the mountain was sacred to the Indians and they made a little shrine or alter up there?

When I traveled through here--I just took pictures of what caught my attention

Some times I did not know why--a site caught my attention.

I had been told that centuries ago--some where--within a mile or two of
this location was a Spanish cache site--that was accidentally entered--then lost again
about 85 years ago. Another man told me he found half a dozen Spanish Markers
with in a mile or two of this location one summer several years ago.

The outside top right side of it does look odd and unusual compared to the bottom left. There still seems to be something about that area of what looks to be loose rocks, outside the bottom left. When first looking at the ic, it appeared to be up on a steep mountain slope, now almost seems to have a trench leading up to it. Is that a dug or carved area a ways in front of the opening?

They are large shadow symbols meant to be seen from a long distance.

This photo seems to be an old Indian trail marker.
