That's a collar disk. Looks to be ww1 era.

Definitely a US Army collar-disc insignia. Yours appears to be the 1910-1924 version... but we need you to clean the crud off it to see if the "background" around the US is the 1910-24 version or the 1926-37 version. Dating Metallic Insignia: Collar Disks
