What is this 1862 coin?

Neighbors brought over what looked like a copper coin with a lady one one side facing left. Its dated 1862 on the back bottom. Its about the size of a half dollar.
Its very worn on the back and front. The letters BR is by her head and ends with the letter D.

Any help is appreciated.

"BRITT REG R D". Probably a large cent, bronze, 1 million mintage; and may actually be dated either 1861 or 1864. Date under crown on the reverse. (Queen Victoria)
