Japan reformed their coinage after the World War starting in 1948, Showa year 23. For that year, brass 5 yen pieces carried no central hole. For Showa 24, the 5 yen coins were minted in brass with and without the hole.

The Showa 23 coins are somewhat more rare than the Shown 24 coins, so their values are a tad more than the figures above.
