What is this? Help please!

Hey all, I found this with my garret ace, in the dry sand about 4-6 inches down on FLs East Coast. It's very heavy, I'm guessing steel with the inscription " MIR " on the front, but no other markings. Could it be a paper weight from a large ship? That's seriously my only guess, I know that may sound silly. Any insight would be great! Thanks
