Found metal detecting in the site of an mid 1800s farm. In picture 6. i stick a tooth pick in it lots of sticky smelly black dirt came out. What could that be. It is probably a component of the "arm" of a wall mounted natural-gas lamp fixture... similar to the images below. As the filename on one of the images says, from the Victorian Era (mid-1800s-to-very-early-1900s).
