✅ SOLVED What is this old iron object and what is this old flat chain?

A couple of more things I was wondering about are what is this iron object with a shell motif on one side and what might this old flat chain (3 links) had been used for? Any help would be appreciated.

That looks very much like and of similar size to the flat chain used in a hay bailer.

I think the one with the shell design is a broken shutter tieback (also called a shutter dog)

Thanks Charlie P. I think you are probably right that the chain is to an old hay bailer or even some other type of old farming machinery. Assumed it had to do something with farming. Thanks again!

Thanks nhbenz. You hit the nail right on the head. I can see where it is broken off and that is exactly what it is - a shutter dog. I am certainly learning a lot through TreasureNet.
