What is this round post with knobs?

Its threaded on ether end.

Maritimers think it may be part of fishing gear. Hauling in nets.

Others suggest textile mill.

Its lovely and awesome, so if I never know.. oh well.

I believe it may have to do with those old maps we used in school, the ones that pulled down like shades.

It's hard to see in the pic but the part you can see with the white threads attached is round like yours.

IDK. they did need to tighten the ropes tho. They used a bed wrench/key
