I found this piece of property out in the desert that was not owned by the feds
but was not on any recent maps (why?)
So I went to the county tax assessor and asked them who owned the land?
he said I can't tell you that but for 10 bucks I can give you the history of the
tax payments.OK that sounds good( they allways have to charge a fee)
dame bureaucrats.He said that's weird the last taxes were paid in 1960 but it hasn't been put up for a tax sale.I thought oh cool a piece of land cheap!
We went back out there to check things out, and were confronted by these guys in camo dress with m16s and not vary friendly telling us to leave now!
no markings on there vehicles eather.Again I went to the tax assessor and said
who owns this?Can I buy this for back taxes?Nope not till it goes up for sale!
we went out there again and there they were even before we got to the land.
People from around the area tell me the its a hundred year old homested.
that the people raised sheep on. if its not owned by the feds whats the big deal?Any help or Ideas on whats going on?

All property tax records are open to the public....there should have been no fee involved.
You have the right to know when the last taxes were paid . If the taxes are delinquent since 1960 you need to ask why it hasnt been put up for sale and why the county is holding onto it....something does not sound right here....

"Get off my land" is not a terrorist threat. Quite the opposite. That is the right of the private citizen. If I find you uninvited and unannounced on my land with a detector and a shovel in your hands you'd have a dog AND me showing some teeth at you, and you'd be looking at if not down the barrel of something - though I don't have an M-16 (or AR-15).

My name and address is on the posted signs and I've never turned down someone who asked permission first.

Possibly squatters or someone who has been bucking the system and getting away with it. If you hadn't paid property taxes for 48 years would you want someone snooping around? Lord knows it could be some oddball fundamentalist religious cult that gets a religious exemption on property & school taxes.

Sounds like they overstepped their bounds.

Generally, you don't have the right to threaten deadly force to repel simple tresspass, you just tell them to leave and call the cops if they don't. You definitely have no right to repell people who aren't trespassing.

I agree, leave it alone! You don't want to get involved in something bad! Tell the police they should check it out and leave it at that!

well the sheriff knows about the property! But said unless I own it, I'm tresspassing.we flew over it yesterday and theres big mounds of fresh dirt and lots of vehicle tracks.And you can see a fence going up but no posted signs yet.
One guy said its a chemical waste dump.And someone said coyote's get shot
on the edge of the property, but no one sees who shoots them.
