Found 6 inches underneath the ground. At first I thought it was a bear trap but it’s definitely not, very flimsy metal.

Does it fit on your head like a crown?

Without a size reference to demonstrate otherwise, Fourman110 is likely correct. Decorative lamp rings can be from a few inches across to a foot or more. We have an outdoor alcohol fueled lamp with an ornate brass ring about 11 inches in diameter. Typically made of sheet steel, copper, or brass, these pieces have been around in some form from the late Roman era. Yours is likely early 1900s.

Time for more coffee.

Kerosine Lamp part.

As Fourman and galenrog already mentioned, this is a decorative surround from the top of a hanging library/parlor oil lamp.
These were typically made of brass and then gold-plated.

That's very interesting!!! Thanks so much for the information! I can't take a photo right now, but it is a little over a foot in diameter.
