New to the forum and new to detecting. Found this thing the other day at the sight of a 19th century general store and post office. Can anyone help me identify what it is/is not? It's 2 inches square, non-ferrous and it weighs slightly more than one ounce. If I had to guess, it's probably some type of copper disc adherred to a flat, thin copper backing. Cannot id. the engraving on the front nor can I id. the material on the back other than it looks like some type of metalic adhesive. Any idea or help would be greatly appreciated.

To me, it looks like a stamp plate, maybe of a train?

It looks like some kind of plug. How thick is the round part? would it slide into a hole and stay in place? I don't see any green that would indicate oxidized copper...

Looks like a negative of an image. Cant make it out but looks like a machine like an old tractor with the metal spiked wheels and somebody operating it (to the right).
Anyhow, I'm probably wrong about what I see, but to see the image you need to do a charcoal rubbing or ink it up and press it onto paper. Another option is to press it into clay.
Let us know what you see.

Antique circuit board?

I think stamp as well

Considering its near an old post office, I'd say that's it , first tbing I thought when I looked at it before I read what you wrote. I'd look up antique cast iron stamps. I'm no expert , but that sure looks to be iron , at least the back side. Was there a stain of orange streaks in the ground when you dug it? I can't look up the stamps , cause my service is being cranky with me.

But it may have fit into a stamper like this one.

I flipped the image, turned it to greyscale and adjusted the contrast. Hope this helps.

Great idea to flip and greyscale. I too think its some type of stamp but stiil not convinced about the image. Thanls alot for everyone's input.

I think it's a stamp as well, it's looks like a boiler or stationary steam engine mounted on a platform to me, not sure what the contraption to the right is.
