I found this stuck in a reef at low tide, and within a half mile from a marine base. Not sure if it's a really old fishing weight, or something else? The bottom of it looks different than any weight I've ever seen (i'm an avid fisherman), which is why I'm wondering if anyone has seen something similar. It's heavy, has a hole towards the top, but the bottom looks odd to me. I'm brand new to metal detecting so any ideas of what this is are appreciated.

Thanks!
Chad

Fishing weight or a sounding weight probably one of the two,.

Thanks villagenut! Hadn't heard of a sounding weight but looking at pictures that makes sense.

Could also be a net weight.

Anything like that...
