Interesting trunk, lots going on.
Looks like a Beech tree with numerous baggings.
The tree is easy to carve in initials as the surface is smooth and soft.

You can also estimate the age of a beech tree by measuring the circumference of the tree at chest height. This is usually done in inches. Divide the number by 3.14 to get its diameter and then multiply by six. You’ll get a rough estimate of the tree’s age with this technique.

Thank you all! I thought it was pretty cool myself. I was wondering if anyone could decode it in some way. I will def. be back to estimate the age of the tree using the method you gave me pepperj. Thanks!

Do you know what the letters are? Looks like maybe VOIAZEC on the bottom and ZTEVE~518 - maybe on top

I think I’ve made the top out at
TZTEVE~ then some weird snake looking symbol or a 2, then 18

For the bottom I’ve got-
QPAZE and either an L or a C
Right below that I’m seeing
H•R
AS.A(I think) then R


The weird thing is, the tail on the R is extended out, almost like it’s directional.

I am open to any thoughts. It’s always good to hear from someone else’s perspective.
There are a few symbols Im just not able to make out yet.
