What kind of Buckle is it?

HI all
I got out again today in the corn field again and came across this buckle about 8 inches down. Anyone have any idea how
old this might be. Now its quite heavy, so its a heavier steel then modern day buckles made out of alum.
Could this be part of a horse strap?
Let me know...
Also update on one of the musket balls I found: I talked to the local historical museum director and he said it was part
of a colonial button. yahoo
I will try and put both pics of buckle and the so called button. The button is the top right in the pic...

Looks to be like a harness type buckle, but another picture with something next to it for size would be nice!

Kind of what I was thinking.... a horse buckle of some kind... but how did it get 8 inches down in just 50 yrs...wow

It happens, I have dug 20 year old coins at 4inches
