Found this recently and not sure what kind of buckle it is. Thought it might be colonial at first, but it stats it has a patent date sometime in the 1870s (can't read the last digit... definitely 187...). It's curved... Any ideas what this went to, and the approximate age?

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps it's a Victorian ladies buckle for a belt or sash or for any number of the 25 pounds of clothes women had to wear back then. Nice find, Breezie

I am not guessing,we find them all the time....with the ring still attached. Also I am not a charter member any more and cant search, but I posted a Daguereotype of a chap wearing them sometime back.It is a suspender buckle. This piece was attached to the end that came over the shoulder, and the ring was attached to the end of another strap that was attached at the front waist of the trousers. The ring attached to the hook

My dad passed away about 8 years ago and it's still tough at times, especially since he was my only detecting partner. It gets lonely out there sometimes by myself. That's why I like coming to this forum... at least I can share the hobby with others.
