My brother-in-law found a 1870 c.c. mintmark sitting liberty silver Dollar.
we were wondering what it is worth.
i havent seen it yet so i cant post a pic right now.
from what he told me over the phone,i classed it as fine condition.
Hopefully i get to see it this weekend.
also it was found inside an old house so it has never been buried.

1870 S, 1871 CC, 1872 CC, and 1873 CC (Carson City) are the rare dates.

It really depends on the quality of the coin... a picture is in order for a proper assessment. Try ebay for comparitive coins and see what they are selling for.

Wow! If genuine that could fetch between $1~$2K.. I say if genuine, because this series is and was widely counterfeited. You should put it on a digital scale. The original weight was 26.73g. Anything under 26g would be suspect. It appears to be in Fine (F12) condition. It's a widely sought after series and a semi-key date in that series. I would also recommend sending it in for certification and grading. Congratulations to your brother.
