With the lid I would think it was one of the first over the counter deodorants called MUM. It came in a small jar like that and was about the consistency of a thick paste. Monty

Kinda looks like the decorative cover to hide the ends of the T-bolts that hold a toilet to the floor.

:D :D :D Sorry...my GrandMum used that stuff...really! if the dish is shallow it could even be one of those wet your stamp things you see in an office or post office etc...it had a wet sponge in it...???

Could be what was called a butter pat. Small dish used to place slice of butter on. Used at resturants in the 1930-50 time period. ::)
