Besides schistosomiasis, when the Japs surrendered in WW2 they left behind all things they would not care. Here are some of what we have uncovered so far:

1. Alabaster sake jar
2. 51 carat emerald
3. A general's rice bowl
4. A couple of bayonets
5. A few precious metals

The bottom picture was of a recovery made by some people in the South. The others are from the North. Which to my mind only confirms what many consider as legend - that the Japanese may indeed left a substantial fortune in the Philippines. And perhaps that's the reason why the Japanese government is pushing for the ratification of the JPEPA (Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement) that will give them access to buying land and the 'natural resources' of the Philippines. Just my two-cents.
