what type of detector for atlantic city beach?

Im asking those who hunt this way because im not sure what the sand is like if a pi or vlf is suggested?

Ive heard its highly metallic but maybe im wrong

Nobody? No atlantic city beach hunters here that can reccomend the type of machi e i need to use on this beach based alone on mineralization?

unfortunately I only swung a detector on AC beaches 4 times.
3 of them were during planted hunts.

I used my Explorer SE. I know a Sovereign will work well there also,But sorry no idea on other Brands.Sad thing either we don't have many members who hunt Atlantic City Beaches,

So If you already have a Detector. Give it a go & let us in on your Finds

Explorer is a vlf, what is sovereign?

Thats what im asking, is it too mi eralized for a pi unit?

I use my Sand Shark there (PI) with no problem. A lot of folks prefer to use multi-frequency VLF machines like the Fisher CZ and the Minelab Excalbur because they can discriminate out iron. Good Luck!

Sovereign GT or Excalibur get my vote on ability to not dig a bunch of junk iron.

I use a PI in the water and wet sand. Lots of digging of trash and junk. I use my AT Pro when in the mood on the dry sand.
You will get interference from the black sand in spots. A word of warning I am up and down the south coast. You need to be very careful in Atlantic City as the beach and boardwalk can be very sketchy. I wouldn't recommend going out alone very early or very late. That is when all fidgets appear and in the spirit of talking to you and being friendly they are sizing you up. I usually hit AC after storms or big beach events. If you do hunt there some of the Casinos have beach bars. Naturally a good place to hunt.

Sovereign GT, Excalibur.. then the CTX for the iron infested area, nothing wrong with the other suggestion but seems these are more popular for that area from the hunters I know there.

I also agree with the above posters Minelab Sovereign or Excalibur work best in wet sand on the Jersey Shore.

I hunt Atlantic City on occasion and think a PI machine is out of the question unless you hunt in the water. Beach has lots of iron and other trash. The entire beach has also been replenished within the last year so old targets will likely be out of reach. Also NJCigarman is right on when he says to be careful hunting in the dark. Lot's of characters lurking, especially now that the weather is warming up. Pay to park to avoid any tickets and be safe. Hate to sound so negative but you need to know what others learn the hard way. HH

I just went there with my v3i and found one wheat penny in the dry sand. Brigantine is a little safer. The v3i worked good there, but off course it has limited depth in the wet salt but still hit some coins. I walked from brigantine to little egg harbor inlet and did not find much. They are big beaches, wish I had a big coil for it. Anyway, the local scum in AC are clued in on metal detectors. So do not go to AC at night at all. My friend uses his CTX 3030 down there and does very well. His car was broken into twice, one time they pried his door open with a crow bar or something. He left something like a wallet on the seat so they probably saw that. But it was just his discount cards, 1800 in damage to his car. I went to the boat show with my pregnant wife and me were forced off the sidewalk cause they would not move and we ended up having to walk through the mud to get by with out a confrontation. She was obviously pregnant, if inly I had a gun. So I just avoid AC for the most part. But if you stay in the water you might be ok since they can't swim.
I was not hitting that much iron down there so a PI machine might not be too bad there.

I have used my whites spectrum and a DFX in ACY beaches, neither would work in the surf, but does very well above the surf in the sandy areas.
