I found this trigger at a site that had seen Civil War skirmishes. It's probably Confederate in origin and from some kind of musket. Has anyone seen a similar piece. Please advise.
MIGHT BE A FOLDING SPUR TRIGGER TYPE --THEY HAD NO TRIGGER GUARD PER SE --THE TRIGGER FOLDED UPWARDS TO STOP ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE BUT WHEN YOU WANTED TO FIRE IT --YOU FOLDED DOWN THE TRIGGER AND PULLED THE TRIGGER BACKWARDS..
Looks like it could be some form of shackle, but the diameter may be too small for that...can't really tell.I figured I would throw it out there anyways.
Nope. I don't think so. The sear is a whole seperate link (it has to drop for a muzzleloader or most weapons with hammers or bolts). What you have there would lift it when pulled. If it were a trigger it would need a pivot point ( a hole) for it to rotate around and lift the sear bar.
I think you have a piece of something that was an oval loop or circle. I have never see any firearm with a 2" trigger. That would be enough room for two gloved fingers.
