today I went to my dump bank to drop off some dimes and next to me I see someone buying my half dollars that I dump there. I didn't say anything because I figured he would think I was nosy but I felt bad because I knew they were all skunks. What would you if you saw someone buying your dumps at the bank? Would you tell them or would you let them find out ther hard way?

Maybe they aren't picking them up to search. I got a bunch of half dollars once as a prank wedding gift a couple of years ago. If they are picking them up to search, it is their business and eventually they should learn.

That has happened to me a couple of times. They all learn the hard way. I usually chuckle to myself and make a hasty exit. I know everything there is to know about CRH ::), and I still buy dumps occasionally. More importantly, how is a total stranger going to react to you coming up to them and broaching that info? Most likely not tell you to have a nice day.

:icon_thumleft: <<something that looks like this, but not with the thumb.

Sounds like a good way to lose a dump bank. Maybe they don't mind taking your dumps because someone comes in to take them, and if they lose his purchases then they're stuck with them (well, Brinks or someone will take them...for a fee).

When in doubt, zip it. That's a painful lesson that I'm still learning. ;D

yea well I didnt say anything because I thought it would have been rude. JW what everyone would have done

I didn't think of that. Noobs play an important role in the CRH ecosystem :).

I bought a bunch of dumps yesterday...and NO ONE TOLD ME. :laughing9: Yeah, I'd just giggle and walk away too.

At my dump bank the teller actually told me that people come in and buy my halves and she says they dont even care that they are already searched through

I bought $230 in dumps today and found 4 40%. I mean the rolls were even marked... Once when buying dumps I found a solid roll of 40%. Guess it was put back by accident. 98% of the time when I buy dumps though I get nothing.

its funny that you mentioned that because I purchased $280 of someones dump at a bank and i found 2 40%'s and a really dirty 64. They all had marks on them so idk what they were searching for. Glad I bought them though :)

Hi all... First post,
When I get halves I weigh the rolls before I open them. The 90% ers jump out that way. The 40s though aren't always obvious. That's why I open them 2nd but maybe some people don't open them and then miss some of the 40s?

Two weeks ago I found out from tellers at 2 banks near to my oncologists office that an older fellow was buying some of the rolls I had dumped last month. I intentionally cashed in a few unsearched rolls from a box and asked the tellers to hold those for him to buy next time he came in.

A week later I asked a teller to give him my phone number and he called the next day. We chatted on the phone, turns out that he's not just hunting for silver. He's building a halves collection that he intends to leave to his grandson. He's currently in a battle with recurrant cancer and we both go to the same cancer center. I took down a list of holes he has in his halves albums, and found that I had some spares of several dates/mints that he needs, many of them the later NIFC's.

We're planning on meeting next week so I can give him those halves, and I'll bring along some unsearched rolls for him to go through. He doesn't have an account at a bank that will order halves.

Wow, Bob. You would be a great friend to have. So many people today are caught up in the "Me first" malarkey. It would be great if more people acted as you do!

WTG!!!

I went to my regular bank today to order my very first box of halves. Turns out, they already had some. Weird! Somebody had come in with "almost $1000 worth". There was a woman at another teller dropping off a large number of quarter rolls. They "saw her coming" and were already going to get trays for her, so I guess she's a regular.

I only had time to go through a few rolls, but I'm pretty sure it's somebody dump.

So, which of you is responsible for these?

first of all, i usually don't mind buying someone's dumps at my pick up bank, since they won't order more boxes as long as they have some halves in the vault. so someone has to take em out. plus, i found many 40% halves in what i'm 99% sure were other's dumps. some people are either rim searching and not careful enough, or just don't know about the 40%ers.

to the quarters lady, you never know if she's actually CRHing. i used to pick up around $1000 in quarters from my bank, twice a month, that came from a lady who owned a laundromat down the block. they closed about a year ago. but i do remember finding some clad proofs and very little silver. people who dump large quantities of dimes and halves - you know they CRH. but quarters - all businesses work with them, and they might be a very good batch of quarters

You might be right about the quarters lady, but if somebody is dumping halves there, they probably do so regularly. I can live with getting dumps now and then, but I don't want to get them with every pick-up, particularly since I haven't found a good place for dumping yet myself. Besides, that bank is so freaking slow, I actually am thinking of switching banks just to get faster service. It hadn't been a problem until now because I go in so infrequently, but if I'm going to be going every week, I can't stand waiting in line 20 minutes then waiting another 20 minutes at the counter while they're in the vault (what about grabbing a box of rolls takes that long?)
