Found this today and wondered if any of you had ideas on what it might be. Looks like something hung on the head considering how it's bent downward, the wear on the upper part of the hole, the way the lower part of the flat is bent forward and worn to a sharp edge. Any help y'all can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Or a rare ancient pop top lol

Just a guess, but it looks like a button for a canvas/leather top, cover, belt, etc.

How about a blade for a small block (wood) plane?

Thanks, Tony and Matt. From what I read up, the Blevins Buckle was developed around WWII. Could there be earlier examples? Asking because I found this in an urban residential area settled back in the 1840s. The brass has a nice patina and if used the way y'all say, I could see it wearing thin at that spot after years of riding.
