What's so special about 235?

235 is the number of silver coins I found from 1990-2006. In other words, pre-Minelab days... the dark ages when barely a glint of silver was there to brighten my days. I have found as many silver coins in a little over seven months as I had in 16 years! :o Even more shocking is that most of these coins have come from the same old parks I was searching before.

After blowing away goals of 50, 100 and 200 silver coins for the year, I have now reached 235. The only thing that could be next is 300, can I do it? I don't know... after today I am at 237. I am just a few coins away from my 1000 wheat goal, which after today's nine is 977.

So, on to today's digs... five silver dimes 1944, 1952-D, 1941-D, 1942 and 1957-D. The 44 and 52-D were in the same hole with a 1946 wheatie. The last three dimes were a surprise, as I was going over ground I thought I had covered before on my way to a spot I had not covered yet! Guess I need to go over that area again! Nine wheats, the oldest 1927 and about $1.50 in clad rounded out the finds.

:icon_thumright: Congratulations, you are the most consistant silver finder I know. Do you ever have a "no silver" day? I salute your detecting skills and all the work and effort you put into the detecting hobby. Nick, since you've grown up and mastered the Etrac, don't you think it's time to shed the little boy avatar? :laughing7: No offense, it just somehow makes your abilities less credible. Maybe it's just me. :dontknow:

I'll put up a picture of me with a long white beard and a bald head. Will that make me as credible as the venerable Dayton Digger? :tongue3: Why was it you chose the 1913 dime for the Dayton Diggers logo again... your birth year, right? ::)

I do have no silver days, maybe about 1 in 10 hunts. I had one on Saturday with Dave and Anthony... they both got Mercury dimes and I could only dig clad and wheats. Of course I dug wheats out of holes they had already dug, so that made me feel a bit better. :laughing7:

Incredible! I don't know if I'll be able to find that many silvers in my whole detecting career.

Nick, I'm curious. Do you think your new detector is just better at id'ing the targets or is it actually giving you signals that your previous detector didn't even register? I'm pretty much a dig it all relic hunter so the target ID doesn't much matter to me. But if your new detector is giving you previously unregistered signals I'm very interested in considering an upgrade! I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this. I've even been considering a PI lately to help cover all situations.......

What's that you say sonie? I have no......well very little grey in my beard. That's funny, 1913, my birth date. OK, I deserved it. I take it back, honestly, 'cause the pic looks just like you. :laughing9:

Seriously though, you are a highly skilled detector hobbyist and all around good guy. Keep on diggin'!

Your doing very good: I can find old wheats, silver is less often!!

I think the new detector is better at IDing the targets. But also, I am hearing good signals I did not hear before due to target masking. The E-Trac (and Pro coil) separates like nobodys' business, especially at a slower sweep speed. I don't know how many times I have dug a small area, say no more than the size of a sheet of paper and been able to isolate and dig 3-4 separate targets from the area. Those double beeps that were a signature trait of the Fisher on long iron like nails? Gone. Double beeps now are two good targets right next to each other.

If you are a dig-all person, the E-Trac probably isn't for you, but for a coinshooter, it's awesome. I think the Explorer with the Smartfind screen would give a relic/dig-all person much more data to work with.

Right now I am working an area of a park that I always shied away from due to a literal carpet of tabs and trash. By going slow, I have been picking silver and wheats (and clad) out from inbetween all the mess. Before, I couldn't stand this area, but now, the silver just screams out at me from the junk.
