I haven't seen one of these for years, but I remember seeing at least one when I was a small child, probably in the 40's. Chinese sewing baskets had coins like those for decorations, and I think I remember seeing it because at the time I couldn't figure out why someone would use money for decorations. It probably belonged to my grandmother, because I was able to handle and look at it. I recollect the basket was old at the time I was looking at it, and I would suppose the coin was older yet, and pretty much valueless or it wouldn't have been used as a decoration. I googled a picture and this one is pretty much how I remember the one I saw.
